What
should be used to seal the top of the cartridge if I remove
the label?
Everyday scotch tape works wonderfully. As a matter of
fact when we refill these cartridges for our use we do
not seal the tops at all. The reason we feel that it unnecessary
for our use is based on the fact that we go through these
cartridges daily. We print a great deal of our 56, 57
& 58 instructions using HP 7150 printers, like the
image shown on the right.
I
refilled and now I am getting green or blue print.
Occasionally, when refilling you can accidentally cross
contaminate colors. This is a good example here. Not the
best picture, but a good example. If I were to install
this cartridge immediately and start to print without
performing a head cleaning routine first my print would
come out a bit off. The ink that is currently sitting
at the bottom of the print head can be drawn into adjacent
jets. This is one of the ways that cross contamination
can occur.
Insert
cartridges into cartridge clips:
To insert a cartridge into a cartridge clip first move
the bottom of the cartridge onto the sponge material
at the bottom of the clip (1). Apply pressure to the
back portion of the level at the top of the clip (2)
while pushing the cartridge into place.
The cartridge clips is a very tight fit around the cartridge.
This is for a reason. The idea it to keep pressure on
the cartridge print head so that the print head does
not dry out. Additionally, during refill this assist
in preventing cross contamination while injecting ink.
Is
it Ok to put tape on the bottom of the cartridge to prevent
it from drying out?
NO! Never put tape, including the tape that the cartridge
originally had on it back onto the cartridge.
According to Hewlett Packard the original tape should
never be reapplied to a cartridge print head.
Adhesive tape, such as scotch tape can damage the print
head and should never be used. Damage resulting from tape
on the print head can be permanent.
Clearing
clogged jets:
If the jets of your cartridge are not flowing properly
do not continuously attempt to run head cleanings. If
the jets of the cartridge are starved of ink running constant
head cleanings can damage the print heads.
It is recommended that you use the following method:
1. Take a paper towel and saturate using clean water.
Filtered water / distilled water.
2. Fold paper towel into fourths. Place paper towel in
microwave for 10-15 seconds.
3. Remove paper towel from microwave and place cartridge
print head directly on paper towel. Allow to sit for 20
seconds.
4. Blot cartridge print head on dry paper towel
A small amount of ink should be present on both the wet
paper towel and the dry one used for blotting. If for
some reason you do not get a clear indication of ink repeat
the process.
Maintaining
your cartridge clips:
Always clean the sponge material on the bottom of the
cartridge clip after use. Ink from the print head will
reside on the clip. Allowing it to sit on the cartridge
clip sponge material will allow it to dry and can make
subsequent refills unsuccessful if dry ink get on the
print heads.
