| Fill
Holes & Refilling the C6657 & C6658 Ink Jet Cartridges |
Though
the C6657 & C6658 ink jet cartridges are probably
the easiest cartridge that we have ever seen from HP,
it seems that sometime refillers (especially beginners
tend to made the refill process more complicated then
it really needs to be.
We often get emails from individuals who state "I
have looked all over the cartridge but can not find where
the ink goes". Sadly enough HP does not have signs
on their cartridges stating: "Refill Here".
But when you actually look at these cartridge you'll easily
see the fill holes and wonder how you ever missed them. |

There
are two ways to access the fill holes of the HP #57 &
#58.
The image to the right shows the two methods used. The
first, also the easiest is to simply locate the fill holes
by running the supplied pry tool that came with your kit
over the top of the cartridge until you feel indentations
on the cartridge. (the #57 blue cap)
These indentations mark the original fill holes as used
by HP.
Once you have located the fill holes simply push into
the tape on the top of the cartridge.
The second methods which is really a bit more than is
required, but is good if you feel that seeing the fill
holes completely is a necessity is to remove the top label
completely. This is shown on the far right cartridge.

Determining
the fill holes of any inkjet cartridge is not that tough
if you have something as simple as a couple of toothpicks.
Insert the toothpicks gently into the cartridge to determine
the color of each chamber.
Though there are five fill hole location to the #57 and
#58 we want to focus on three of those. These are labeled
on the images to the right.
The fill holes that we recommend for refill purposes are
the three holes closest to the outside of the cartridge.
The additional two fill holes on each cartridge are duplicate
fill holes to the ones recommended for refilling.
A layout of all the holes is shown directly below.
Now to answer the questions many of you will ask if I
do not specify it here.
W why do we recommend the outer fill holes? The outer
fill holes appear to be the location the cartridges were
originally filled by the manufacture. This was determined
by the the needle holes in original sponge material prior
to our refilling. Since all refill that we have performed
work successfully without the use of the additional fill
holes there seems to be little or no need for use of them
when refilling. These fill holes may or may not actually
be used in the process of manufacturing. Or, these fill
holes may be use as vent holes for air to escape during
the initial fill process by HP.
