INSTRUCTIONS FOR REFILLING
EPSON COMPATIBLE INK CARTRIDGES: T032 / T042 / T044
This page is the refill instructions for use with a variety of epson compatible individuals color ink cartridges.  Before you read through this page it is strongly recommended you first read our Primer. The Primer will fill you in on details regarding these cartridges.

THE REFILL PROCESS STEP BY STEP
BEFORE YOUR START
  • Place an adequate amount of newspaper over your work area.
  • Have prepared a cup of water & several paper towels folded into quarters.
  • Wear gloves supplied with refill kit.

Resetting the chip:  If you plan on resetting the chip prior to refill now is a good time.  Please refer to your chip reset instructions

PREPARE CARTRIDGE FOR REFILL
  1. Place an adhesive bandage over the chip located on the front of the cartridge. (Band-Aid as an example)
  2. Place a piece of adhesive tape over the ink exit hole located at the bottom of the ink cartridge.  Press against a flat surface to ensure tight seal.
  3. Tape over the top air vent
  4. Locate the original fill hole(s).  Peel back the top label to expose the location of the original fill holes.
  5. Open the fill holes.  Using the supplied pry tool insert into top seal. If there is more than one original fill hole insert  needle into second fill hole for air release.
PREPARE INJECTOR & INK
  1. Take out one injector and one needle from packaging. (Keep needle in protective cap)
  2. Push injector stem so that there is no air in the injector
  3. Attach needle to injector by turning needle clockwise onto luer lock fitting on the injector.
  4. Open bottle of ink to be used.
  5. Remove protective cap from needle
  6. Fill injector to 10CC with ink for color cartridges and 25cc for black high capacity.
  7. Close ink bottle.

FILLING CARTRIDGE WITH INK
  1. Insert needle into cartridge.  When inserting needle you will meet a small amount of resistance when encountering the sponge.  This is normal.  Continue to insert injector until needle has been inserted all the way to the hub.  Pull back the needle so that 1/8" of the needle shows.
  2. Slowly inject ink into the cartridge.  An absolute minimum of 8 seconds per cc is recommended for sponge only cartridges.  On Sponge with reservoir cartridges 15 seconds per cc is recommended.
  3. When air-bubbles or ink begin top come out of the top fill hole stop injecting ink.  Wait several seconds and slowly remove needle from cartridge.
  4. Return any unused ink back to bottle. (If a color cartridge accepts all 10cc of ink you may repeat with an additional 5cc of ink.)
(If a high capacity black accepts all 25cc of ink you may repeat with an additional 10cc)
  5. Gently wipe any excess ink from the top of the cartridge.
  6. Seal the top of the cartridge with adhesive tape.  To ensure an acceptable seal you may double up the tape on the fill hole.
  7. Let cartridge sit in upright position for ten minutes. (ink exit hole at bottom and air vent at top).  This allows time for the ink to settle and fill the entire bottom of the cartridge.

AFTER THE REFILL
Since you are waiting for the cartridge to settle, now is a good time to clean your tools.
  1. Rinse injector.  Thoroughly rinse injector and needle under running water.   You can remove needle from injector to get a more thorough cleaning.  To remove needle turn counter clockwise. Pull injector plunger back and forth several times to clean the inside of the injector.  If you are not using filtered tap water then the last step is to rinse both needle and injector in a cup of clean water.
  2. Remove adhesive bandage (Band-Aid) from cartridge.
  3. Reset the chip.  If you did not reset the chip before the refill now is a good time.  Please refer to your chip reset instructions.
  4. Remove tape from vent hole.
  5. Remove tape from ink exit hole.
  6. Insert cartridge into your printer.
  7. Allow cartridge to run through normal installation procedure.
  8. Run a print test.  If lines appear in print wait one minute before attempting a head cleaning.  Repeat  head cleaning if required.
When handling cartridge do not apply excessive pressure to the sides of the cartridge

STORING
  • Ink should be stored in a manner consistent with original manufactures cartridge storage instructions.
  • Ink should not be exposed to direct sunlight or allowed to freeze.
  • If ink is stored in a cold location below normal printer operating temperatures or above normal printer operating temperatures you may need to wait an hour before using cartridge.
  • Ink bottles should be stored standing up.
  • Place instructions, injectors and needles back into zip lock bags supplied with kit.
TROUBLESHOOTING

When the tape is remove from the bottom of the cartridge the cartridge may release ink a few drops of ink.   This is not uncommon if the cartridge was filled too quickly or if the cartridge was filled beyond normal capacity.  Allow cartridge to sit in plastic container until it has stopped.  Do not place the cartridge on a paper towel or anything that might draw ink out of the cartridge.  DO NOT install your cartridge until the cartridge has ceased releasing ink.

Air in Sponge.  Though not common with this series of cartridges, the possibility exists.  To remove trapped air from the sponge material place a piece of tape over the ink exit hole.  Wrap cartridge in paper towel.  Smack cartridge against your hand.  The force of the cartridge stopping on your hand allows the ink inside the cartridge to continue down to the bottom of the cartridge.  This forces air out of the way to the top of the cartridge.

No ink on printed page.  This is commonly a result of tape over the air vent or residual adhesive over the air vent.  Tape such as electrical tape or duc tape leave a residual adhesive.  These type of tapes are not recommended for taping the air vent.  If the air vent is blocked you can use a pin to clear the air vent path.  If the air vent is seriously clogged you can use the pin to poke a hole over the original fill hole.  Just a pin hole is require to allow air in.

Test your printer.  If you see lines in your print or incomplete print then perform a primer page as described below.  We recommend a single primer print, though more many be necessary under some situations.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Primer pages can be used to assist in clearing blockage in a print head (such as air), or simply for 'priming' the cartridge.  The purpose is to force ink, air and blockage out of the cartridge. To create primer pages simple follow the instructions below.
  1. Black Primer: Using a paint program, draw a solid black block covering the entire page.
  2. To Use.  Just print the page!  Printing at high resolution at maximum saturation is recommended as it allows all of the jets to fire quickly.

The same process can be used for the color as well
