INSTRUCTIONS FOR REFILLING CANON
BC-01 / BC-02 / BC-05 / BC-06 / BX-3

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU REFILL CARTRIDGE BEFORE COMPLETELY RUNNING OUT OF INK.   THIS CARTRIDGE USES A THERMAL PROCESS THAT HEATS THE INK.
WITHOUT INK IN THE CARTRIDGE, THE HEATING ELEMENTS CAN BE EASILY DAMAGED.

** REFILL QUANTITY CHART IS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE **

BEFORE
SPONGE MATERIAL MAY DRY IF LEFT WITHOUT INK FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME.
Before you get started here are some suggestions for getting the most from the refilling process while maintaining a clean, usable work area.

  1. Work close to or over a sink.  Wear rubber gloves and place an adequate amount of newspaper over work area.
  2. Have prepared for use a cup of warm water and several paper towels.
  3. Remove the cartridge from your printer and place on its side.
DO NOT touch the printhead at bottom of cartridges.

REFILL PROCESS for BC-01\BC-02
  1. Set your cartridge down on a secure level surface with the fill hole facing upward.
  2. There is a fill-hole plug covering the area where you will be refilling from.  Using the supplied twist tool (eye screw) remove the plug.  Plug is no longer needed and may be discarded.
  3. Use the twist tool to enlarge the vent hole already present in the cartridge.
  4. Attach injector tip to injector by slowly twisting until secure.
  5. Fill injector to 20 cc with black ink.  Cartridge capacity is 27 cc. when new
  6. Insert injector into fill hole approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.
  7. Slowly inject ink into cartridge.  As you inject ink slowly withdraw injector to that ink may evenly be distributed throughout the sponge.
  8. Repeat dispensing ink until sponge material no longer accepts ink, or you have depleted the injector of ink.  Wipe off any residual ink from cartridge body.
  9. You may repeat the process for up to 5 cc's more ink.
  10. Allow to sit several minutes before putting back into printer carriage.
PROCESS for BC-05
  1. Set your cartridge down on a secure level surface with the three fill holes upward.
  2. There are fill-hole plugs covering the area where you will be refilling from.  Using the supplied twist tool (eye screw) remove the three plugs.  Plugs are not needed and may be discarded.
  3. Use the twist tool to enlarge the vent holes already present in the cartridge
  4. Attach injector tip to injector by slowly twisting until secure.
  5. Fill injector to 5 cc with desired color ink.  Cartridge capacity is approximately 5 cc. per color.
  6. Insert injector into desired color chamber approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.
  9. You may repeat the process for the two colors remaining.
  10. Allow to sit several minutes before putting back into printer carriage.

REFILL FOR BX-3
  1. Set cartridge on its side with the translucent side facing upward.
  2. Using the supplied pry tool (eye screw) push the ball plug into cartridge chamber.
  3. Attach injector tip to injector by slowly twisting until secure.
  4. Fill injector to 20 cc capacity.  Cartridge capacity is 27 cc.
  5. Insert injector into chamber and slowly inject ink until it appears full.
  6. Let cartridge sit for 20-30 minutes so that sponge material may absorb ink. (sponge material is located behind the translucent compartment and can be seen when cartridge is completely empty.
  7. Add additional ink up to a total of 25 cc.  Though cartridge is a 27 cc capacity cartridge, it is very common that 1 or 2 cc of ink remain in the sponge material.
  8. Using supplied seals cover and seal cartridge opening.
  9. Allow to sit several minutes before putting back into printer carriage.

PROCESS for BC-06 COLOR
  9. You may repeat the process for the two colors remaining.
  10. Allow to sit several minutes before putting back into printer carriage.

WHAT TO KNOW
Due to nature of the sponge material, it is common that after six to eight refill that the sponge begin to deteriorate. There are many factors involved in why the sponge will deteriorate.  How long it takes is partially up to you.  Here are some guidelines to protecting your cartridge and getting the most from it.
  1. Refill the cartridge immediately upon running out of ink, or as soon as the ink level becomes low.
  2. Do not let cartridge sit out of a printer longer than necessary.  Too much air is not beneficial to the sponge material.
  3. Expect the inevitable:  Cartridges will eventually cease to work.  Have an extra cartridge on hand.  All printer manufacturers recommend this as well.  It is just good practice to keep a new cartridge available at all times

PRIMER PAGES
Primer pages can be used to assist in clearing blockage in a print head, or simply for 'priming' the cartridge.  The purpose is to force ink, air and blockage out of the cartridge.
To create primer pages simple follow the instructions below.
  1. Black Primer:  Take any painting or draw program and cover the surface of your page with a single large block of black.  The more surface that is covered on the page the better.
  2. Color Primer Page:  Using a paint or draw program create three blocks down the length of the page as shown in the diagram to the right titled 'Color Primer'.  Each of the block should be in the primary ink jet colors (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow)  Cover as much of the page as you can without overlapping colors.
  3. To Use.  Just print the page!  Print as many pages as is necessary to get the ink flowing properly
