Rejections on HP 7260, 7450, 7660, 7755, 7760 & 7960 PhotoSmart
Printers.
Recently
Hewlett Packard released technical information and support
information related to their cartridges and printers not
accepting ink jet cartridges.
According to Hewlett Packard certain PhotoSmart models
including HP PhotoSmart 7260,
7450, 7660, 7755, 7760 & 7960 may receive
error messages when installing ink cartridges.
The interesting thing about the release of this information
is that it does not even come close to the number of printers
we believe are affected by this particular problem. To
date we have received emails from owners of three times
more HP models then the ones they have listed above. Some
of these individuals were refilling their cartridges,
some purchased remanufactured cartridges but the highest
number were purchasing their cartridge new from an HP
authorized reseller.
The other interesting thing is that HP Technical Photo
Support is obviously not aware of this problem. On 9/1/05
a client of ours called with this same issue after calling
Hewlett Packard to ask their Technical Support on what
should be done to correct the problem. Our client was
advised by Hewlett Packard to buy another printer since
his was now old. His printer by the way is about 1 year
and 2 months old.
After removing his ink cartridges and restarting the printer
and then reinstalling the ink cartridges he was capable
of getting the printer to read the cartridges.
But the story does not end here. The reason being that
this problem has existed for many months and the technical
support department of Hewlett Packard has advised many
different things to many different consumers but in only
one instance in more than fifty has stated to a consumer
by phone that the problem was indeed a power module failure.
Hewlett Packard did replace this individuals printer.
That was one out of the over fifty individuals we know
of that contacted Hewlett Packard regarding this issue.
In most cases the very first thing the Hewlett Packard
Representative asked was: "Are you refilling your
ink jet cartridges?" If the consumer stated yes then
there was no technical support offered.
This is a prime example of the way Hewlett Packard does
business. Instead of letting the consumer know outright
that a problem does exist they first look for ways to
put the problem on others. Unless Hewlett Packard has
built in some software based algorithm to automatically
reject refilled cartridges then there should be no bearing
on whether the cartridge is refilled or not. If the power
module failure is an issue related to the printers themselves
then why even ask a question like that in the first place?
The only I can rationalize is that they want to put the
blame on others. Obviously this should all be taken as
opinion of reactive thinking as Hewlett Packard would
probably claim that the number of individuals that experience
this problem are much higher when they refilled their
cartridges. We of course are considered biased because
we are selling aftermarket items. One thing they can not
get past though is that fact that their website does state
a problem exists. The only real question is how much of
the truth behind this are the willing to admit.
If you are receiving and error message on one of your
cartridges please take a look at the "fix"
for the problem. If you are experiencing this problem
on both cartridges please see the "fix"
specific to this issue.
If you have ever received this error message on a new,
recycled, refilled, remanufactured ink cartridge please
email us about the occurrence along with your printer
model number, date of purchase and any related information
you feel is important. We are attempting to document as
many cases as possible. Please email us at support@alotofthings.com
